St. Gemma Galgani (1878-1903) was a deeply mystical Christian known for her love of God and absolute trust in him. She had conversations with with her guardian angel, Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and other Saints-especially Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows. She displayed the stigmata starting at age 21.

Gemma is known as the "Daughter of the Passion of Christ" because of her intense devotion to our Lord's suffering on the Cross. She turned down two marriage proposals in order to raise her siblings after her parents died. Her desire was to love God with all her heart.

She had a remarkable life, even though it was not a long one. She died on Holy Saturday, 1903, and was canonized in 1940. Her Feast Day is April 11th. She is a Patron Saint of Students and those who seek purity of heart.

This is our second restoration of a photo of Gemma. She is younger in this one than the other, and there is some of hat youthful fullness in her face. We added a touch of color to the photo, her light, sky blue eyes. We hope this picture, as with all of our restorations, allows you to feel closer to the Saints on a personal level, and thus closer to Jesus! (sources: Catholic.org, stgemmagalgani.com)
